Every sailor needs a reason to come home. A mermaid lounges across the front panel, stretched out on a sun-warmed rock like she's been waiting there all afternoon. Her auburn hair streams back in the sea breeze, pinned with a starfish and a shell, and she wears a gold bustier with a scallop shell held loosely in one hand. Her tail sweeps out in seafoam and pale aqua, every scale and fin traced in fine navy line, curling over a ribbon of blue water. The rock beneath her is stitched in sandy gold, scattered with tiny shells and sprigs of coral.
Across from her, an octopus has claimed the anchor. Worked in seafoam with gold scale detailing along the head, its tentacles wind around a gold-stitched anchor, blush suckers showing at every curl, one arm reaching up past the ring like it's got no plans to let go. Old sailors said the sea kept what it loved. This one's holding on.
