Wings out. Coast clear.
A pelican glides across the front panel, stitched wide and set right over the handle like it's skimming low over the water on the way back to the pier. The wings stretch out in layered cobalt, cornflower, and cream, every long flight feather picked out in its own line of thread. The head is worked in cream and gold, with a long amber bill and a flash of red at the throat. It's the bird that's been circling the same stretch of shore for years and knows every fishing boat by name.
Off to the side, a chenille varsity letter in sunshine gold, a big C on a blue field with a breaking wave at its center, marked '66 and Lupine Bluff. Somebody earned that one on the swim team and never gave the jacket back.
